Kiya. She didn't seem to like the whole production. She ate really no cake and didn't like the frosting on her face, etc. Not the reaction we expected but by this point in the day she was tired and way over stimulated. We still have birthday cake so Sunday on her actual birthday we will try again.
Here she is surrounded by just a few of the new toys she received. Wow. Looks like a toy store in my living room right now. We don't want a repeat of this at Christmas so we are trying to find a creative way to let people know that clothes, books or a charitable donation would be a better idea. We are kind of toyed out at this point yet very grateful to everyone who thought of Kiya and what she might like.
Overall the day was a lot of fun. At times it was too much for Kiya but she was a trooper. She did go to bed at 6:15pm though and slept all night. She is definitely teething and is acting her age. Her appetite has been less than stellar and formula has been a no go for the last few days. Luckily she is drinking more and more milk each day so our days of formula may be nearing an end.
Two more days and my baby girl is officially 1.

I remember 1 with LeLe - he BAWLED when we sang happy birthday. It was just way too much for him - and we kept it low key. Isn't it adorable, how our little ones get bigger but still let us know what they need? So precious. Happy Birthday Kiya!
Sam was the same way...HATED the cake and people singing to him. Oh well, I'm sure he'll love Bday #2 and in the meantime, we're just giving him wrapping paper and boxes for Christmas because he's more interested in those than actual gifts.
Happy 1st Birthday! Looks like she had tons of fun too!!!
I saved C's birthday gifts and hand them out one at a time, about once a month. It's just too much to get them all at once and I don't believe kids appreciate them fully when they get them all at once. So she gets to open them, and pick a couple and the rest get hidden away when she's not looking. When she gets older this may not work, but for now it's great.
Happy Birthday Kiya!
And for C's birth mother, I just sent her an envelope full of pictures. That's a nice gift, I think, and no translation needed.
