Yes, it is true. We took Kiya to the ER last night. It was about 10pm and she was sleeping but making these weird moaning noises. I went to see what was going on and she was all tensed up and shivering.
Dave came up and at first we thought she was just dreaming but my Mommy instinct just knew something was wrong. Her unusual behavior continued so Dave picked her up and she proceeded to vomit all over him twice. We noticed she was burning up and still shivering and pretty rigid. We took her temperature and she definitely had a fever and the shivering was continuing.
We new parents were at a loss. We got her dressed and off we went to the new ER in our city that just opened this summer. Thank God otherwise we would have had a 20 minute car ride to get there. By the time we got to the ER, Kiya had stopped shivering but was still really warm.
Well 30 minutes later we were walking out with a prescription for antibiotics and an ear infection diagnosis. She has had an ear infection before but she had never acted like this before. It was kind of scary but we are relieved that it was just an ear infection.
On the plus side, we learned that Kiya now weighs in at 17.3 lbs :)

How scary, and I am so glad she is okay. Girl, even if you had 10 kids you probably would have done the same thing. When children are that young and it's a first time seeing them behave in a scary and unusual way, then straight to the ER it is. You both did wonderful. The possibility of a child vomiting while sleeping was always a big concern of mine, so I had Eva sleep on a wedge for a long time. Then I would put a pillow under one side of her crib mattress when she was too big for a wedge...this was also b/c she had lots of ear infections and stuffy nose...so it helped drainage in general. Hugs to you and Kiya!!!
Ear infections are not fun! My youngest has lots of them and it is scary how sick they can get from it.
I once called the on-call nurse at midnight. Jacob had woken up with his first nose bleed. I had no idea noses could just bleed for no reason. The nurses and doctors are always great with my phone calls and questions no matter what time of day it is.
