Okay I will start with the good news....we are #15!
Today we had our travel clinic appointment. Didn't really learn anything I didn't already know but it was good to go. Obviously, we can't drink the water, eat raw fruits and vegetables and swimming in "fresh" water is highly discouraged.
We both got a polio booster, meningitis, typhoid and yellow fever vaccine. I opted for the typhoid shot and hubby is taking the pills. We went back and forth on whether to get yellow fever and decided to just do it. Our risk of getting it while in Ethiopia is low but I just don't want to worry about that while I am there. So far feeling fine and arms don't hurt. It could take 5-10 days for reactions from yellow fever shot to kick in but those should be minor (fever, headache, overall aches).
We also got a prescription for Malarone for Malaria and one for Zithromax, a broad spectrum antibiotic. We could have gotten Cipro but with it being black labeled and hubby's previous bad reactions to it we opted for Zithromax.
There will be a trip to REI in our future to buy bug spray with at least 30% DEET in it and some spray that we can spray on our clothes that is an insect repellent and lasts through 5 washes. That will be nice as we can spray clothes here and not have to worry about it. The doctor even told us that the DEET spray was safe for babies as long as we didn't put it on their face or hands.
Once we get closer to knowing when we are going we will get travel insurance so if we need medical care while we are there we can be air lifted to Kenya. Just a precaution but will be good to have just in case.
And on a totally random note, there are lots of rumors flying around right now about single parents being able to adopt from Ethiopia and the possible limiting of how many single parents can adopt from an agency each year. I want to send hug HUGS and lots of PRAYERS to all of the single waiters and those with referral or about to start the process. My heart is with you and I hope you get some good news or at the very least some clear answers.

Wow. That is a lot of shots and medication. But, like you said, well worth it for safety measure. Pretty exciting that you are at this point! So glad you are moving up on the list. I think we will see several more referrals this month. Heres to postive hopes, right! :) Thank you for joining me in my home study dance. I am aching to get on the the waiting list. Waiting to wait is frustrating.
